It is an island surrounded by clean and crystal clear water of the Mediterranean Sea. Water sports such as Swimming, Scuba Diving and Surfing are popular here. The island has beautiful beaches and coves along with rich flora and fauna which has made it a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Other than the natural scenes and sights, the island also has a rich archaeological heritage.
Tourist Attractions
Es Tudons Prehistoric Burial Site
It was a prehistoric burial site and consists of chambers for funeral offerings. The plan or the architecture of this place is worth watching and gives glimpses of the old culture.
Archaeological Ruins
Ruins of Talatí de Dalt are the remains of a village belonging to the Bronze Age. They are of much significance, especially for archaeologists. A glimpse of the early settlement can be got by taking a look at the ruins of the sanctuary, the public area, the storerooms and other structures present here.
Trepucó Ruins are the ruins of the Megalithic age. They are located in the south of the island and attract many tourists and archaeologists.
Beaches
Arenal D’ en Castell beach and Sa Caleta beach are the two beaches of Minorca. The beauty of these beaches lies in the clean and crystal clear water of the Mediterranean. The beaches are worth seeing and attract tourists from all over the world. Water sports like swimming, scuba diving and surf-rafting are very popular here. Sea diving is one of the favorite sports here as it allows the people to get familiar and observe the beauty of the brilliant sea bed. The beaches also provide good facilities for the tourists and are good spots for enjoying the sea and lying down under the sun.
Coves
Coves are part of the beaches but are more like coastal inlets having narrow and restricted entrances. They have shallow water and are sometimes oval in shape. Minorca has a large number of coves and they provide good spots for sun-bathing and water sports. They are particularly good for scuba diving and swimming. Some of the important and beautiful coves of Minorca that attract tourists are:
Cala en Porter cove provides excellent facilities for water sports, Sun Beds for sun bathing and is also surrounded by restaurants and other facilities for the tourists.
Cala Blanca cove is one of the most beautiful coves of Minorca and is characterized with blue crystal clear water and white sand from which it has got its name Blanca cove or the White cove. It provides facilities for water sports and also has a scuba diving school.
Cala Galdana cove is characterized with shallow waters and it is a shell shaped cove. It is a good spot for swimming and other water sports. Good facilities attract tourists.
